Our Story

Since 1969, we have been becoming more.

For more than five decades, GWBI has helped organisations do what they do, only more globally. This is our story so far, and some of it in advance.

Where it began

It started with a simple idea, shared over a pot of tea: that business could be more. More than fifty years later, we are still relentlessly committed to working out more what.

Our history

Five decades of momentum.

From a single table to 147 markets, every chapter of our story has been defined by the same thing: adding to it.

  1. 1969

    Business International is founded

Three founders meet at a motorway service station on the M4 and agree that business could be more. Nobody writes down what more is, because the concept itself is the driver to ultimate business discovery.

  2. 1974

Our first office opens in Swindon

It remains our most photographed office, and the only one with its own carbon-neutral car park.

  3. 1987

    We become Worldwide

"Worldwide" is added to the name to reflect our growing presence in two further countries. Derek Pole joins as VP, Horizontal Integration.

  4. 1994

    A future CEO arrives

Marcus Brightwell joins as an intern. He has never really left the room.

  5. 1999

    We embrace the internet

We launch our first website, followed shortly afterwards by a strategy for having one.

  6. 2004

    We become Global

"Global" is added to reflect our expanding footprint. Global Worldwide Business International is born. Business cards are reprinted for the third time.

  7. 2012

    Integrevity™ is introduced

Our proprietary values framework, so integral to who we are that it cannot be defined.

  8. 2018

Best Workplace, for the first time

We are humbled to win Best Workplace at The Global Workplace Awards. We have remained humbled every year since.

  9. 2021

    A hard pivot

We make a hard pivot to blockchain deliverables. In 2022, we make a soft pivot back, and retain the learnings.

  10. 2025

    AI-first, people-first

We become AI-first while remaining people-first. Both teams now report to the same steering committee, which meets first.

  11. 2026

    Today

382,000 colleagues. 147 markets. Nine consecutive Best Workplace awards. One shared sense of being here.

  12. 2031

    Planetary

Proposed rebrand to Global Worldwide Business International Planetary, subject to consultation. Business cards have been ordered.

Our values

Our five values.

They guide every decision we make, every partnership we form and every slide we present.

Integrevity™

Integrity, with longevity, and a little something extra we are not yet able to disclose.

Agility

We move quickly and decisively and, where appropriate, after a period of consultation.

Courage

The courage to do the right thing, every time, subject to approval.

Passion

We bring 720° passion to every engagement, which is twice what is generally recommended.

Excellence

Excellence in everything we do, everywhere we do it.

Excellence

Because we believe excellence is worth repeating.

How we work

The GWBI Way™

Our proprietary four-stage methodology, refined over five decades and applied to every engagement, regardless of what the engagement is.

  2. DefineWe define what you need, so that everyone needs the same thing.
  3. DeliverWe deliver against the definition, on time and on message.
  4. DiscoverWe discover what you need.
The GWBI Way™ 1. Discover 2. Define 3. Deliver 4. Discover
